SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Must supervise all support staff in the program numbering between 4-20 members. Duties include scheduling, training, evaluating, disciplining and discharge of support staff. Supervises lead program instructors as well. This person must be able to interact with others and assist during busy times.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE An adult at least 21 years of age; with a bachelor’s degree in recreation or a related field, with experience working with participants ages 2-Adult. Five or more years experience in gymnastics and/or tumbling as an athlete and/or instructor. One to two years prior experience supervising a gymnastics program. One to two years prior coaching experience of USAG team compulsory and optional levels. Preferred experience as a competitive athlete.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES Language Skills Ability to read, analyze and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, participants, parent/guardians and the general public.
Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units or measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to apply such mathematical concepts to practical situation. Ability to tell time. Ability to count to music of varying temp and measure.
Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situation where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral or schedule format. Ability to apply the scientific method to problems that arise. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATE/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS Professional membership in United States of America Gymnastics, USAG Safety, USAG PDPI or II, USAG Meet Director, USAG Skill Evaluator, CPR or First Aid or get within 12 months of hiring.

The individual in this position must be able to perform a vast range of gross and fine motor skills in mobility, object manipulation and maneuvering on, under and over specific apparatuses.
Individual must be able to position, manipulate and shape participants of weights ranging from 50-150 pounds (must consider the addition of incumbent force of that weight depending on the situation) on, under, over, around, through and without specific apparatus.
Individual must be able to position, manipulate and move equipment and apparatus ranging from 1-500 pounds on, under, over, around and through areas.

Duties:

Under the supervision and direction of the Recreation Coordinator, the Gymnastics Supervisor is responsible for planning, organization and supervision of the Gymnastics Program and all its component parts by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Programs 1. Upholds the Joliet Park District philosophy at all times
2. Perform thorough evaluation of current programs, and make all necessary changes to ensure that the structure, technique and efficiency are sound in current programming.
3. Make all necessary changes in programming, placement of staff, and use of equipment and effectively implement new strategies that will ensure a diversified program suited to the needs of all existing and potential participants within the framework of the policies set forth by the Joliet Park District Board of Commissioners.
4. Generate ideas and new programs to bring the Joliet Park District Gymnastics/Tumbling to the competitive edge.
5. Keep Recreation Coordinator informed of all potential plans regarding changes/growth of program.
Equipment/Facility Use 6. Evaluate safety/effectiveness of current equipment. Bring all equipment up to safety standards.
7. Ensure maximum performance of equipment layout in gymnastics facility.
8. Prepare necessary requests for new equipment/repair of current equipment. Compare bid specifications and suggest company/equipment to Supervisor.
9. Make facility look professional and ensure ability to accommodate both recreational and competitive programs. Ensure all staff members uphold the cleanliness of equipment with regularly scheduled maintenance.
Staff 10. Complete orientation with current staff and become familiarized with their skill level and gymnastics/tumbling history/experience. Evaluate ability of staff and train if necessary. o Ensure proper technique and maximum efficiency and safety in program execution (best placement of staff and structure of class while in session).
11. Bring staff to a more professional appearance and performance to enhance both recreational and competitive program.
12. Ensure all staffing needs are met for the varied class type and size. Schedule staff and ensure all staff has access to co-worker information for emergency/conflict purposes.
13. Recruit and recommend the employment of volunteers, instructors, lead instructors, head and assistant coaches for programs.
Patrons 14. Review current participant evaluation system and adjust if necessary. Possibly make evaluation more ‘upbeat’ and ‘parent-friendly’.
15. Through observation, provide staff with suggestions on skill level and placement of patrons.
16. Familiarize yourself with participants; encourage and help them grow in our programs.
17. Make patrons aware of future programs and potential growth within the Joliet Park District Gymnastics/Tumbling program.
18. Find ways to maximize excitement and attention level in and out of class; work with staff on implementing strategies.
Parents 19. Get parents involved! through conversation, flyers for new classes, handouts from class, etc.
20. Create a relationship with parents and show them that we have a serious program and growth ahead, for both JPD Gymnastics/Tumbling and the participants.
21. Become informed and act upon parental concerns, requests, etc. They fund the programs and also act as free advertisement.
Community/Public 22. Ensure that the public gets to know you and the Joliet Park District Gymnastics/Tumbling division through advertisement in media and in-house.
23. Use previous public speaking skills and personal experience to promote the program and yourself.
24. Host competitions at the Joliet Park District and also compete elsewhere. Ensure that the Joliet Park District team is represented respectfully.
25. Effectively advertise all aspects of Gymnastics/Tumbling that the Joliet Park District has to offer.
Self 26. Ensure all necessary certifications and credentials are acquired in order to perform duties with maximum efficiency.
27. Further your knowledge of gymnastics/tumbling and business production through seminars, classes, conferences, workshops, etc.
28. Attend all staff meetings and ensure punctuality and preparedness.
29. Maintain professionalism in all aspects of the position.
30. Be available/prepared to teach/coach class when staff is unavailable.
31. Maintain excellent communication with direct supervisor.
