The IPRA Six-County Senior Olympics provides an opportunity for older adults to compete with their peers in an atmosphere of friendship and support, and to receive recognition for their efforts and achievements. The event is open to seniors of all ability levels, and hosts more than 30 events including: golf, tennis, bowling, swimming, biking, track & field, horseshoes, bocce, volleyball and more. All participants will receive a 2009 Senior Olympics T-shirt, and medals will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers in each age/gender category.
After May 1st, registration forms and a detailed schedule of events will be available online at www.ilipra.org/seniorolympics, at your local Senior Center, or by calling (847) 692-3597.

The W.K. Kellogg Foundation Access to Recreation grant program has provided $15 million in funding to 36 recreation projects in four Midwestern states over the last three years. Projects were selected based on their concepts for embracing universal design, opportunity to facilitate inclusion of people of all abilities and opportunity to serve as an exemplar of universal design to community planners, recreation practitioners and advocates.
Join the National Center on Accessibility for a summer webinar series as we look at some of these innovative projects. The free 90-minute sessions will present an overview of the project concepts, the planning process, design decisions, construction issues, and fundraising. Participants will have the opportunity to view some of the project details online and ask questions of the project managers. This is an excellent opportunity for professionals seeking the latest information on universal design trends specific to parks and recreation. The series is sponsored by the Michigan Recreation and Park Association Foundation.
BOATING AND FISHING AREAS: Project teams will discuss solutions to designing for integration to fishing areas and creating water access. Featured projects:

Come for half the day or stay for the entire day! In the morning, five different software vendors will conduct presentations on the different modules that they offer. Maximum Solutions, AEK, RecTrac/VSI, Active Network and RecEnroll will be on site to discuss modules including fitness transactions, activity registration, finance, pool pass sales and other bonus features. You can stay with one vendor for the entire morning to see all modules included in one software package, or you can rotate to different software vendors throughout the morning if you are just interested in seeing one specific module from each vendor. Directors, Superintendents and Supervisors are all welcome and encouraged to attend the morning session, regardless of your section affiliation! After a break for lunch from 11:30-12:30 the fitness section will be hosting a roundtable with an in depth look at the Statewide Fitness Facility Survey results from the annual June survey. Fitness topics will cover fitness employee salaries, memberships, job descriptions, equipment maintenance and effects of competition.
